Scratch the starter shim, Don't need it with the X series kit. Also don't need to grind your bellhousing out with it.
It will hold more power and be easier to push at the pedal also. Frankly I would step up to the Kevlar "TZ" Kit for $50.00 more, It's going to last much longer. As far as that stud goes, I think you may want to look further into whatever problems your were having and to the reason it failed. The stud was a bad idea but I think you had another problem also. The stud would have worked for the short time you had it running so long as it was tq'd to spec. I really don't see it causing all the problems you had.
